Our homes as Inspiration

I believe we all need inspiration in our homes. Whether it be as simple as a healthy plant, a bright cushion a collection of vessels or something bigger like concrete kitchen benchtop and so on. Our homes are our special place….our little patch on the earth. They get us ready to face the day and envelope us when we return home. I can often be heard saying “safe and sound in the bungalow” when I return home. It’s difficult though, to enthusiastically jump out of bed of a morning if we look around and don’t like what we see. When we’re saturated by advertisements promising something that will make us happier, it’s too easy to dismiss what we already have. It’s interesting to me how many people feel the only way they can be happy is if they move house, perhaps missing opportunities to improve their current surroundings. I have always felt that just moving a piece of furniture, a coat of paint or changing a display is enough to bring new life to the place. A minimalist at heart, I tend to store meaningful possessions and bring them out to display at different times and in different nooks around the house. It’s a new inspiration for the week when I’m looking at objects I haven’t seen in a while. This, for example,is my colour-blocking corner today.
